Joey is a professional screenwriter, director, and producer who has been working in the film industry for over twelve years. He’s worked in post-production, talent management, creative development, and independent producing. 

A member of the Writers Guild of America, Joey specializes in telling human stories with relatable characters across many different genres and has feature screenplays under option by a number of well-known production companies.

Joey’s feature screenplay, DOCK, based on the life of Dock Ellis, is currently in development with Academy Award-nominated producer David Permut of Permut Presentations, as well as Joel Reilly and Patrick Patterson of Undisputed Pictures. Rapper Ice Cube serves as an Executive Producer on the project.

As of 2025, Joey is in post-production on a short film he wrote and directed entitled ‘MOM’ starring Jeanette O’Connor (THE PITT) and Zach Laws.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Joey served as the Associate Producer on the Netflix Original film, THE POLKA KING, starring Jack Black, which premiered at Sundance in 2016. He was also Associate Producer on the Apple TV+ original docu-series, VISIBLE: OUT ON TELEVISION.

In 2022, Joey directed the short film PICK UP STICK, which had its premiere at the River Run International Film Festival and went on to be shown in film festivals around the country.

Joey served as Assistant to the Producer on the Academy Award-nominated HACKSAW RIDGE.

In 2017, Joey was featured as one of “Hollywood’s 100 top new writers” on Tracking-Board.com's ‘Young & Hungry List’.

Growing up in West Palm Beach, Florida, Joey attended the Dreyfoos School of the Arts for high school, where he studied film and photography. His student film, SEVEN CIRCLES, received a National Silver Key Award from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

In 2006, Joey was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome, which left him temporarily unable to walk without the assistance of a cane or wheelchair.

While he’s now able to live a mostly normal life, Joey is still considerably weaker on his left side and finds himself limping when he’s tired. He lives with a less than 10% chance of relapse.
